Hillcrest Rotagram - April 29, 2008 Meeting

The meeting was opened by Joe C. in the absence of Ross D.
 
Happy/Sad Bucks: Melissa D. paid her birthday money and stated that she was happy to be 30 years old. Melissa it is 29 and holding. NEVER admit to more. Jackie M. was happy with the turnout at the Special Olympics Bowling tournament. The participants are very special people who love this event. Brian G. was complimented for giving a young lady participant and her mother his Indians tickets for the May 11th game. The young lady is an avid Indians fan. Jackie M. also stated that she was happy because she did her first Meals On Wheels route with Kim Peters a former Rotary member. She thinks it would be nice if we could interest him in joining the club again. Gail S. was happy with the Special Olympics event. Mike Sr. was happy as he spent time in Windsor, Ontario at a peace conference with 600 Rotarians and 400 Rotaract students. Bill H is happy as he was in Pittsburgh at an Ambassador Scholarship program for 2 days. He came in contact with 6 young men from the various military academies. Steve K said he is happy as he is no longer a guest at the meetings. As of today he is a member. Also the next day is his birthday. Lynda R. was happy that she helped in the afternoon with the Olympic bowling. She was in an area where the participant needed a ramp to be able to bowl. She is also happy that her payroll clerk position for the city of Richmond Heights is now filled. Scott M is happy that he assisted taking student from St. Pascal's school on a tour of Gettysburg and various other historical locations. Brian G. stated that he was happy to have participated in the Special Olympics event. He also stated that he has a ticket for the Indians game for this evening if anyone wanted it. Darlene J. said she was happy because she had gotten married Tuesday, April 22nd. Joe D. thanked Brian for providing the tickets to the young lady and her mother. He remarked that at one time the young lady had been a student in the Lander school program we provide the picnic for. Joe K. said that he is happy his surgery is over and he is doing well with some continued pain.
 
Mike Jr. thanked everyone who came to Bar Louie's as a TOH thank you. He has not made arrangements for the next event. Joe C. was happy that at the bowling event some of the ladies thought he was handsome. He had a mixed emotion buck because his dental surgery as performed by Joe D. went so well. John W. reminded everyone that there was no meeting next Tuesday during the day as the Vo-ed dinner was that night. He requested help at the registration table. He also stated that 37 children had been invited but 4 were unable to attend.
 
Joe D. passed the sign up sheet for the picnic around. Members were asked specify steak, fish or whatever on the list.
 
Lynda R. stated that she had a e-mail from Julie West requesting host families for the members of the GSE team. They are from Germany and will be in the area May 3rd through May 11th. They need housing and some transportation support. Mike Sr. stated that being a host family is a wonderful experience. They are all men aged 28-37.
 
Steve Kenyon was sworn in as a member of the Hillcrest Rotary Club by Mike Sr. Ted Bilton his sponsor was absent. Joe D. represented him.
 
Steve provided background history about himself to the members of the club. Steve stated that he moved here form the New York City area in 1985 where he had been employed in advertising. He became acquainted with health care through his cousin whom he worked for. He spent 10 years at the Peterson Nut Company in downtown Cleveland. He returned to health care and school. He is currently the Administrator for Altercare of Mayfield Village. They are mainly involved in rehabilitation. He loves his work and is happy to be out of the New York City area. Steve lives in Lakewood with his partner, Mary Ann spending most of his time and activities with Mary Ann's four daughters and nine grand-children. Steve is looking forward to his relationships within Rotary.
