Hillcrest Rotagram - March 4, 2008 Meeting
BULLETIN EDITOR:Georgia Tucholka Guests: Dan Davis from the Chagrin Highlands Club Happy / Sad Bucks: Dan Davis is happy to be here. Lynda Rossiter had both a happy and a sad buck. She is happy that Kathleen Mekesa is doing well and sad that she had to put the brace back on her wrist due to pain. John Wilson paid $1.00 to tell us that when he was in San Jose, California he paid $25.00 to attend their rotary club. Mike Sr. paid $5.00 for his wonderful experience in Nigeria. He said they made him feel extremely important. He also gave the club 3 banners from the various clubs he had contact with while there. He spoke briefly about his experiences and stated that he will be bringing pictures for us to see. Scott Mills is happy because he is now done with training for his new job and is able to return to the club. Mike Jr. was happy for the turn out of members for dinner at California Pizza in Legacy Village. Frank Moore announced that he will be having a right knee replacement. Ted Bilton said that he had lunch with Steve from Altercare. Steve visited the club last week and stated that he is 99% certain that even though he was unable to be present today, he will become a member. Announcements: Ross stated that there continues to be a number of members who have not paid for events they have attended, beginning with the clam bake last fall. The board decided to begin to publish the names on the Web site. Lynda Rossiter said that members have two weeks to take care of this before the spreadsheet gets published. Mike Jr. stated that he may need to request that members prepay for the events. Ross said that he spoke to Chuck Warfield, a member who requested a leave. Chuck said to tell everyone Hi. Joe Wilson stated that a basket had been sent to Kathleen Mekesa. Ross read a letter from the Stow Monroe Falls club. They are having a soft ball tournament July 13 as a fund raiser. The cost is $150.00 per team. Anyone interested in getting together a team for our club should contact Ross. Jackie Minotas stated that she thought she had enough members who signed up to help at the play night this Thursday, March 06, 2008. Joe Wilson stated that the 4 way speech contest will be held at the meeting next Tuesday. Thus far we have three students. There will be three monetary prizes awarded. He as well as other members of the club are disappointed in the participation from the schools and the teachers for this event. Ways to develop a better connection with the schools will be discussed. Dan Davis discussed the upcoming district speech contest April 12. He is requesting volunteers for this event. The participants in this contest are the winners from the club's contests. George Schumacher announced that the Aurora club I having their Taste of Aurora March 16. Mike Jr. said he would send a sign up list by e-mail for the pancake breakfast at Burton. He also stated that he would be passing sign up sheets around to the members to attend the breakfast at Yours Truly (91 & Wilson Mills) Saturday March 15 at 9am and dinner at the Melting Pot (Legacy Village) Friday, April 4 at 6pm. These are some of the restaurants that participated in our Taste of Hillcrest. John Wilson announced that this will be the 30th year for the Vocational Dinner. He would like to make is special. The sponsorship fee is being raised to $125.00 from $100.00. The booster fees are staying the same at $35.00. The dinner is being held May 6 at the Manor Party Center in Euclid. Attendance at the dinner is in place of a normal meeting that day. He met briefly with members of the Public Relations committee and his committee to plan ways to get increased sponsorships. Ross announced that PETS is this weekend and Brian Giallombardo and Joe Cicero would be attending. Mike Johns, Sr. stated that he would also be attending.
